An Evening of Empowerment: When Wrestling Meets Poetry at Local Coffee Shop Reading
In what can only be described as a magical confluence of storytelling and poetry, my recent book reading event transformed into an unexpected celebration of women's voices and resilience. The intimate setting of the local coffee shop became the perfect backdrop for sharing passages from "UNPINNED," my upcoming memoir chronicling the journey from wrestling mats to artist's canvas.
The evening took an inspiring turn when we discovered the beautiful synchronicity between the themes in "UNPINNED" and the works of renowned poet Rupi Kaur. The raw honesty of Kaur's poetry perfectly complemented my narrative of breaking barriers and finding one's authentic path, creating an impromptu dialogue between two distinct yet harmonious voices in women's literature.
As I shared excerpts from "UNPINNED," the room resonated with stories of challenging gender discrimination in wrestling, legal battles for inclusion, and the transformative power of art. My memoir, featuring 20-25 original artworks, weaves together the physical demands of athletics with the emotional journey of artistic discovery. Each passage sparked meaningful discussions about women's experiences in male-dominated spaces and the various ways we find our power.
While the video recording captures my reading of selected passages, it offers a more personal, focused perspective - just me sharing my story directly with the camera. Though it can't fully capture the wonderful energy and interactions of the live audience that made the evening so special, it provides an intimate way to experience key excerpts from "UNPINNED" and the heart of its message.
"UNPINNED" is more than just a memoir; it's a testament to the power of perseverance and the beauty of transformation. Set for release on March 2, 2025, the book is now available for pre-order at liveartbyaudie.com. Each pre-ordered copy represents another voice added to the chorus of change, another step toward breaking down barriers for future generations.
The evening served as a powerful reminder that whether through wrestling, art, or poetry, women's stories matter. They deserve to be told, heard, and celebrated. As the night closed, surrounded by the warmth of community and the strength of shared experiences, it became clear that this was more than just a book reading – it was a celebration of resilience, creativity, and the unbreakable spirit of women who dare to challenge the status quo.
